Intimate backyard weddings are my weakness, and this one was just too good. Incredible historic home with victorian details, beautiful table arrangements and details, palpable love in the air, plus the groom played the song that he wrote to propose to his bride for everyone in attendance. Doesn't get any sweeter.

Daniel + Rick

Daniel + Rick

In my hiatus of blogging, I missed out on showing you guys a lot of fun shoots. So I'm throwing this one back to the spring time with Daniel and Rick at Antelope Island near Salt Lake City. Cutest dang couple, and fun fact: Daniel (the tall one in the grey suit) made the cake for mine and Jamie's wedding. It was not only tasty, but beautiful as well.

3 Things I Wish I'd Known When Planning My Wedding

3 Things I Wish I'd Known When Planning My Wedding

Weddings can be so overwhelming to plan. While I was planning mine, I found it helpful to hear what other friends and family liked and didn't like about their own weddings, so I thought I would compile some thoughts in the hopes that it will help some of you with your own planning.

Rachel+Matthew First Look

I can't recommend highly enough to any couple, but especially LDS couples to do first look photos on a different day from your wedding. Often the wedding day is so jam packed with events and so busy that it can feel annoying and rushed for you to get formal photos of you and your boo. When you set aside a night close to your wedding to do them, you get to take your time, enjoy the moment, and breathe in that beautiful warm light. Pressure and stress free. These were taken at the Mesa LDS temple and the grounds just couldn't have been prettier. You can't even tell that we were all actually sweating in the record end of October heat.

Madeline and Michael

Madeline and Michael

Madeline and Michael met playing on the same Rugby team in college. How fun is that? We got to explore the beautiful Boyce Thompson Arboretum together in the mountains of Arizona and it truly did not disappoint. I miss the landscape in Utah, but Arizona has some spots that could be contenders. I understand why people love it. These two are getting married in November and it's going to be splendid.

Self Portraits

Self Portraits

Today the light in my office and the need to create was calling to me. There's this playful, warm, whispery light shows up late in the afternoon and leaves after only visiting for about twenty minutes. Sometimes I ignore it. Sometimes I shut the blinds and pretend its not there. Sometimes I get so caught up in the to do lists and work for clients and other business behind the scenes that I forget the reason I chose photography in the first place. I was glad I chose to let the light in and give myself a break to play with the light and nurture my creativity.

Megan and Kyler

Megan and Kyler

This is from a lovely May wedding this year at Wadley Farms in Lindon, UT. The weather was beautiful, the bride and groom were happy as clams, and everything went off without a hitch. My favorite thing about Megan and Kyler was that they were so easy going and happy. They seemed to just kick back and enjoy spending the day together, rather than worrying about details. They had a killer bridal/groomal party to help out and they were really able to just spend sweet moments together and with their loved ones.

Choosing Love

Choosing Love

I recently had somebody tell me they thought talking about love as "brave" was totally cliche. I was taken aback, and have been pondering on bits of that thought over the last few weeks. Are terms like "choosing love" and "having courage to love" just trite phrases that people say?
